Up Coming Races

January 16, 2013 Posted by Coach Adam

Hello Ski Fans,

Thank You to everyone who helped make the last weekend such a big success! All the Hard work has clearly paid off with Great Results. Clearly, most of you are supremely Fit! You guys make it fun to be a coach; Thank You.

So, Saturday, Jan. 19th, is the 29th annual Reino Keski Salmi loppet in Larch Hills which is this side of Salmon Arm. The race is Classic Technique which it has always been. This is the Best Loppet in Western Canada by far. If you are 8-13 your race distance is 6km which may sound long but the course is pretty easy and fun. The other distance options are pretty standard for a loppet. This event will be fully supported for grip wax and I will be there. Ski practise will be on Sunday instead at 10am; Skate.

The registration deadline is Thursday at midnight so if you are thinking of coming please register right away here: https://zone4.ca/onlinereg.asp?id=5117

If you are thinking of attending the Western Canadian Championships in Grand Prairie on Feb. 22-24th please let me know right away so we can plan the trip effectively; accommodations book up quickly because of the Oil industry. Right now it looks like some are planning on driving and others are planing on Flying West-Jet.

February also contains the second Okanagan Cup of the year. It is Feb. 16th at Stake Lake and Classic Technique. Stake Lake is half way to Kamloops from Merrit so it is about two hours driving in the winter. Take the Logan Lake turn off and keep right until you arrive… check the google directions if you have not been here before. If you did the first OK CUP you are in the running for a series aggregate. The final race of the series is March 10th at Vernon and will likely be Skate.

Another event for older skiers will be held February 9 and 10th at Nat Brown’s which is near Princeton. Here it is in Jessica’s Words: “Nat is a retired head waxer for the US XC National Team, waxing at 5 Olympics (Torino being the last) before he retired. He owns 200 acres just down the road from our cabin at Osprey Lake (1 hour drive from West Kelowna on the Princeton-Summerland road). He has a fabulous 7.5 km ski trail he grooms with a professional groomer and we have the good fortune to be able to train there over xmas break. He has hosted US National Team training camps and time trials on his course during his career and thought it would be fun to give it a go again. The weekend we have picked is the family day weekend Feb 9/10. There will be a skate sprint relay on the saturday (great opportunity for the kids to practice this format before Nationals) and a 7.5/15 km classic distance on the Sunday. Dave Wood will bring a crew for it, our club should have a full complement and I am hoping you will be able to make it with your racers. Let me know what you think. We can set the start times a bit later if you want to make day trips.” Since then CVTC has confirmed that they will be joining in on this event so it will be pretty high caliber and right in our backyard! I think most TR2s should do Sunday at the very least.

Keep on Sliding,

Adam
