Great Results from the 2023 Track Attack Championships!

Racing hard at Track Attack Champs

This past weekend, Telemark did well at the 2023 Track attack Championships at Larch Hills, tying for first place with Hollyburn Cross Country Ski club (Vancouver). Great work everyone! Let’s see if we can keep the ball rolling at the 2023 BC Championships at Telemark in March!

Great work everyone! The trials were super fast on our TT! We got some good work on our downhill race technique! Here are the results from today! The final course was:

  • Start at the Squirrel/Race 1 junction
  • Ski up Race two, continue up Fern to Easy street
  • Easy street to roller coaster
  • At the bottom of rollercoaster, climb up squirrel for lap 2
  • Lap 2 was the same, minus Race Two

The objective of the Track Attack Championships is to bring young skiers together for a memorable and enjoyable weekend of competition and fun. This event follows a tournament format, where one school or club team ends up the overall winner. Points towards the club aggregate trophy recognize the efforts of as many participants as possible, including the achievements of both individuals and teams.
This event is suitable for beginners through to experienced skiers.

Highlights:* one year age categories for 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013
* age appropriate courses
* emphasis on participation
* banquet* tons of Fun!!!
Host Club: Larch Hills Nordic Society

Location: Larch Hills Ski Area, Salmon Arm, BC
Date: January 28-29, 2023

Race Day Plan; Coles Notes; Athletes and their skis (classic and skate) need to be at the race site by 8:30 am on Saturday. Pre-skiing of the race courses will take place at 9 AM Saturday with the coaches. 8 AM Sunday morning for the Sprint Courses. Skis need to be completely clean of all grip and glide wax before they come to the wax technicians at the event.

Relay Teams Relay teams are chosen by the head coaches. They are selected by the current season’s performances. The fastest skiers earn their spots on the fastest teams. We will require a lot of relay team names by Thursday this week.

7 PM Zoom Meetings will take place Friday and Saturday. It will be the same link for both meetings.

Congratulations to all of the skiers who competed last week in the World Junior Championships Trials! All of our Telemark Nordic skiers had great performances during the week of racing in Prince George. Our young team shows a lot of promise for the future. Garrett was able to easily take the top U20 spot in the 20 km Classic Mass Start race which automatically qualified him for the World Junior Championships in Whistler next week. Team Telemark at the 2023 Canada Winter Games

Congratulations goes out to Breagh Bridge, Garrett Siever and Ian Mayer for qualifying for this upcoming Canada Winter Games! The Canada Winter Games is a huge multiport event held every 4 years and our team members were able to qualify last weekend at BC Cup #1. Our skiers will represent Team BC in Prince Edward Island and will get to race at the newly renovated Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park.

Joining our athletes will be Coach Adam, who will be supporting Team BC at the nordic events, and Coach Chris, who will be supporting Team BC at the Biathlon events.

BC Cup #1 Whistler!

Hello racers!

Here are the race details for the upcoming weekend of racing in Whistler!

Clothing

Make sure to bring lots of dry clothes, and extra gloves/tops. There is a good possibility for rain, so be prepared for the weather!

Skis

  • Skis clearly marked with name
  • Totally cleaned and marked grip zones
  • All skis must be glide waxed, scraped, and brushed.

Glide Wax recommendation: Toko Yellow or Swix Red

Friday Jan 6th

  • Chris will be driving the team van to whistler
    • Pick up for Kelowna athletes will be at 7am at Coach Chris’ house
    • Pick up for West K athletes will be at 7:30 at the West Kelowna Library
  • We should arrive ~ 2pm and will have until 4:30 to pre-ski the courses.
  • Those who plan on arriving on Saturday morning or later Friday evening, should arrive with enough time to ski your course on race day. Reminder: no skiing on course once the races have started.

Saturday Jan 7th Classic Sprint

  • Please check Zone4 to see your start time
  • Please have your skis to the wax tent MINIMUM 1.5HRS before your start time.
  • Young skiers will be led by a coach for their warm up, look for our wax cabin and tent for your warm up time.
  • You should be at or heading to the start pen 10minutes before your start (we will have coaches to help with that)
  • A designated parent or coach will pick up all the race bibs for the team and have them by the wax tent. 
  • Make sure you verify your results to see the heats

Sunday Jan 8th Skate race

  • Please check Zone4 to see your start time
  • Please have your skis to the wax tent MINIMUM 1.5HRS before your start time.
