Bottle Drive Sorting Day Sunday Oct 16

September 20, 2022 Posted by Chris Halldorson

Bottle Drive Sorting day Sunday Oct 16th 10am, 3651 Glencoe Road

It’s that time of year again to start collecting cans, bottles and cartons from your neighbors, family and friends. Each empty gets the team 10 cents, we have a goal to collect 50,000 items and raise $5000 to help pay for general team costs (ie coaching, team van maintenance, wax at races, to name a few things)

Please start collecting now and mark your calendar to join the rest of the team on Sunday Oct 16th 10am to sort the empties at 3651 Glencoe Road, Westbank (bring gloves, water snacks, we will be there for a few hours) We know you are busy, we all are and when we all participate we can all feel good that we contributed. You might be thinking, can’t I just pay more fees? Technically yes, but it’s a lot more than you might think. After registration fees, we still need $43,000 to cover expenses for the team, divide that by the number of athletes and it would be approx another $715 more per athlete. The main task of the parent committee is to raise the funds to pay for team expenses.

Click on the document below for a bottle drive poster (a pdf you can edit)  add your own phone number and address and post in neighbourhood, facebook etc. Do you know a senior that lives in a condo or apartment, they can  put up a poster for you and pick a date to collect their donations, do you know anyone with a restaurant with empties to donate? A full large bag of cans is approx. $20. When each athlete collects 8-12 large bags we will meet our goal. It takes less time than you think to fill a vehicle, get the kids out after school a couple of times,  or on the weekends leading up to the sorting day and coordinate with other families to drop the empties to the sorting location in advance of Oct 16th at the home of team members Oliver and Eloise at 3651 Glencoe Road (yes, they are ok with us dropping off bags and boxes of empties between now and Oct 16th)

Along with the bottle drive, the parent committee also organizes the ski swap, prize raffle, on-line auction, sponsors, hosting BC Champs, BBQ’s and more. Can you donate a prize for the raffle or an item for the auction, know any businesses that would like to sponsor the race team? other ideas?

Seeking Additional Team Van Drivers!

June 13, 2022 Posted by Chris Halldorson

This could be you!

We are seeking eligible drivers who are able, or willing to become, designated Team Telemark Van Drivers this season! We are fortunate to have a dedicated van for our race team, and are hoping to utilize it more frequently this winter. With the current cost of fuel, we are keen on having more team transportation!

Although our coaches (Adam & Chris) are registered to drive the van, it isn’t always possible to use the van at competitions as race support coaching duties do not permit transporting athletes to and from the competition venues. Coaches can transport athletes to the competition city (i.e.: Kelowna-Whistler), but race-day shuttling (i.e.: Whistler accommodations to Whistler Olympic Park) is not possible as the coaches are required to be on site much earlier, remain on site much later than the athletes and are unable to depart mid-day to shuttle athletes.

We would like to recruit more drivers (from biathlon and cross country programs) who can assist with driving so we can use the van to transport athletes to race cities and shuttle to the race venue while the coaches remain on site.

Driver Requirements:

The Team Telemark Van Policy requires that :”All operators of the Team Van must have a valid British Columbia Driver’s License with a Class 4 unrestricted designation. This license allows for the operation of commercial vehicles carrying up to 24 passengers.”

Benefits include:

  • Using the coveted HOV Lane
  • Saving on fuel costs
  • Keeping up with what music is cool with the kids these days
  • Building team memories

If you are interested in becoming a van driver, please contact Coach Adam or Coach Chris.
