TR1 / TJR Rollerskiing – lights required

September 19, 2015 Posted by Ross

Tri

TR1 / TJR athletes and parents

We will be roller skiing starting 6pm at SEK on Thursday Sept 24th.  Official sunset is about 7pm right now, so it is required to have a front white light and red rear facing light on either the helmet or drink belt, and a reflective vest as well (the bright shirts are great for weekend days, but not as we approach evening).  We will make every effort to get off the roads in accordance with our club rollerski policy.

Zip ties work well to attach a front light to the helmet.  If you are in need of a rear light contact coach Paul as he has some left over from last year.  He will have them with him on Sunday and Thursday this week.

Tr1 / TRJ Rollerskiing this week

September 14, 2015 Posted by Ross

TR1 / TRJ Roller skiing this week

This week there will be two roller ski practices, 6pm on Thursday Sept 17th and 9:30 am on Sunday Sept 20th.  The practices start from SEK elementary school.

Practices will start on time, and as we are heading out on open roads,  if you happen to be running late please drop your child ahead of the group so that they are not roller skiing alone to catch up.

Here is the official team policy on roller ski safety, please review prior to Thursday.  Any athletes that do not conform to the safety policy will have to miss the roller ski part of the session.

Review the post on how to sharpen rollerski tips.  Sharp tips keep the poles from slipping when planted and encourage good technique.  The special roller ski tips work much better than snow ski tips as they are made of carbide steel and do not wear down to a nubbin after a few practices on pavement.  Kelowna Cycle has sets of both sizes in stock as of last week.
