Whistler BC Cup Update

December 14, 2021 Posted by Coach Adam

Hello Ski Fans,

Values: Adventure, Camaraderie, Integrity and Excellence

We figured it would be best to give everyone a heads up on the Whistler Nordic BC Cup Race. There are many factors working against the Whistler BC Cup happening in January. These include:

  • The roads not scheduled to be open to recreational traffic; at this point flying to Vancouver is the best option
  • The number of Athletes travelling to the Nakkertok exchange have significantly reducing potential number of Telemark skiers at the event
  • Scheduling Conflicts with the Canmore Canada Cup / Trials event; too close together to do both

The Whistler BC Cup is not likely to go ahead as planned. What could happen to the Whistler BC Cup?

  • It could be swapped in the schedule with on of the other BC Cups to Prince George or Salmon Arm
  • It could be delayed or cancelled altogether
  • Hopefully it gets swapped with Salmon Arm since this would significantly increase the number of skiers from our club and others who could attend

At this point we have decided that Team Telemark will not be supporting this event if it goes ahead in Whistler as scheduled. I suggest that anyone who was super keen on this event redirects their energy into the Western Canadian Championship in Red Deer. If you want to join the team for this event please email me this week. We have a limited number of seats for the team van.

The Telemark Programs Covid Safety Plan has been updated to align with Via Sport, Provincial Health orders and Regional health orders. The latest from Via Sport can be found Here!

  • Coaches and Volunteers in outdoor sport do not need to prove that they are vaccinated
  • Track Attack will now revert to following the same rules as all of the Telemark program groups
  • All individuals must complete a self-assessment of Health before arriving at Telemark for training

All Events are available on our Website Calendar.

Teresa has created a Press Release from all of the racing so far this month. These will be found on the Media Tab which is under the Resources Menu of our website. Thanks to all of the coaches and helpers who supported the race weekends! It was fun to do some real racing again. The most important thing is to approach the races as an opportunity to test yourself.  You should focus on doing your best, not on the results.

Speaking of Volunteers, just a friendly reminder that we need VOLUNTEERS FOR BIATHLON REGIONAL RACE the morning of Sunday December 19th 2021

VOLUNTEER POSITION SIGN UP: VOLUNTEERSIGNUP.ORG/WXK7D

NB: we need volunteers to register on zone 4 for contact tracing here:
