Hello Ski Fans,
Happy to see that the season is well under way and that the skiing on the “Telemark Trail” is excellent for early season. Plus it is currently snowing!
So, if you are a Juvenile or Junior Boy or Girl I think that you should enter the sprint races for these two NORAM’s even if it means racing up categories. You may only end up doing the qualifier but I think that it is important. The Next 3 paragraphs are my attempt at a simple explanation of why.
How do you make the provincial teams? Well basically, Canada Points List (CPL) values close to the International Podium Benchmark (IPB) for your age. Here is an explanation of the CPL points! or WIN a medal at nationals.
First of all, it is very important to note that there will only be 3 sprint races in BC this year which will be eligible for the CPL list. To earn full CPL points it is the best result of 4 Sprint Qualifiers. The better the skiers you Qualify with (same distance) the more likely it is that you will earn good points.
Sovereign NORAM has Junior Men/Women – Open Sprint racing Saturday. Juvenile and Junior Boy/Girls should probably race up into this category to get points.
Rossland NORAM has Junior B/G – Open Sprint racing Saturday. Juveniles should race up a category.
Prince George BC Cup Sprint; poor points opportunity because all of the skiers with good points will be at Easterns and WJRs. Also, Telemark is not Supporting this race this year.
The Sovereign NorAm which is December 9th and 10th has an early bird Registration Deadline of this Sunday November 12th.
The Rossland NorAm which is December 15-17th has an early bird Registration Deadline of Sunday November 19th.
Registration: does not currently appear to be open.
Other Sprint CPL race options for this year are: Frozen Thunder (last week), WJRT Quebec, Westerns in Red Deer and Nationals in Thunder Bay.
Feel free to ask your coaches questions about this process.
Thank You,
Adam Elliot
