Were you born in 2009 or 2010? – If so you are eligible to try out for the 2024 BC Winter Games!

Join other racers your age from communities throughout British Columbia for a weekend of biathlon & cross-country skiing competition and fun. The BC Winter Games is a multi-sport event that happens every 2 years. Athletes from around the province will compete in 17 different sports in the host community of Lhtako Quesnel. The BC Games society provides transportation to/from Quesnel, along with meals and accommodations for the event.

Bc Games is unique in that racers will represent 8 zones – Kootenay, Okanagan, Lower Mainland (3), Vancouver Island, Northwest and Northeast.

Telemark is one of the clubs is Zone 2. At least 8 cross-country skiers and 4 biathletes from Zone 2 will form the Zone 2 team for each sport. The team will be comprised of the top athletes from our zone who qualify at the Zone 2 BCWG trials. BC Games also has a Wildcard system for ADDITIONAL athletes to qualify, but you’ll need to attend the trials to be eligible!

Zone 2 BC Winter Games Trials

Zone 2 Biathlon trials: Dec 16-17 at the Odlum Brown BC Cup hosted at Telemark

Zone 2 Cross-Country trials: Dec 30 at the Teck Okanagan Regional race in Revelstoke

The biathlon events at the Games will include:

Sprint race: 15 second intervals, 4.5km (3 x 1.5km laps), shoot PP, penalty loop for misses

Pursuit race: Start order based on the finish from the sprint race, 6km (4 x 1.5km laps), shoot PPP, penalty loop for misses

Zone Relays: 2 males, 2 females, 4.5km (3 x 1.5km laps), shoot PP + extra rounds, penalty loop for misses

Super Sprint: Mass start, short loops, shoot PP + extra rounds

The cross-country ski events at the Games will include:

Interval Start Race:  15 second intervals, classic technique, 3.5 km (b. 2010) & 5 km (b. 2009)

Individual Sprint Race:  free technique, distance 400 metres 

Zone Relays:  2 males, 2 females, mixed techniques, combined age categories, 4 x 2.0 km

The cross-country ski events for athletes with a disability or athletes in the Special Olympics Program.

The games is open to para racers aged 13-35 and Special O. racers aged 12-45.

Para-Interval Start Race: Standing M/W, classic technique, 5 km

Para-Interval Start Race: Sit-Ski M/W, classic technique, 3.5 km

Para-Individual Sprint Race: free technique, 400 metres

Special O. Individual Start race: M/W, classic technique, 5/3km

Special O. Individual Start Race: M/W, skate technique, 400m

Special O. Zone Relays: 2 males, 2 females, mixed techniques, 4 x 2.0 km
