Hello Ski Fans!
I’m sure you all heard the sad news that all the ski clubs had to stop grooming as of Monday. While it will still be possible to ski, the chance for us coaches to sit with you as a group and as individuals to talk about your amazing season is not likely to come for a good while.
We are both proud and amazed at how hard you’ve all worked and how much you’ve improved over this year. You have been training since the end of August, in all kinds of weather, doing very challenging sessions with big grins on your faces. When the news came that the season had to end early you kept your heads high and kept having fun on skis. It has been a real joy to coach you!
As we are transitioning to dryland training it is important to ease into running again to avoid spending the summer injured. I’ve attached Coach Ross’ handy guidelines for injury-free running. It is also time to start increasing the time that you’re spending on strength training. Our team resources, with T2T specific guidelines, are here:
Core strength: https://race.teamtelemark.ca/athlete-resources/core-strength-training/
Body weight strength: https://race.teamtelemark.ca/body-weight-strength/
Please remember from our dryland training sessions how important proper technique is. It is far more important to do the exercises correctly than it is to do more reps or a harder version.
The coaching team will also be reaching out to you to set up time to chat by phone or videoconference and chat about your goals from this and for next season, and answer any questions you might have about summer training.
Please keep you and yours safe and healthy during this outbreak. If you go exercise with friends, make sure to maintain your distance. Do find time to chat with your ski friends online. We’re also looking into holding online group strength sessions!
We are very much looking forward to all getting back together again when this is behind us. Have a great spring, and don’t forget:
