International Children’s Winter Games –
Day 3 report from Ross: Just wrapping up an exciting day of sprint racing at the international children’s games. Today was a beautiful spectacular day with great views of the Alps. It was sunny and -12 so very great conditions. The kids raced really well. Oliver qualified 18th and Grayson 22nd so both made the quarterfinals but were knocked out in the heats. Clara qualified 22nd and was also knocked out in the 1/4 final. Sally skied really well qualified 12 and ended up in the B final placing 11th overall despite having a really sore back from a fall on the ice last night. The kids are having a blast meeting kids from all over the world and trading pins, shirts, and hats with them. So overall it is been a great experience and one that the kids and myself will never forget. One more race to go which is a mixed relay where the kids are mixed with kids from all over the world.
Day 4 report from Ross: Today was the last day of the ICWG. The format was a mixed team skate relay. Two boys and two girls consisting of kids from all over the world. No city was allowed to have two athletes on the same team. It made for interesting work finding a teammate as many of the athletes don’t speak English and our athletes don’t speak Russian. The event again was a really fun course quite short with lots of ups and downs, rollers, and a slalom. The kids had a great time meeting athletes from all around the world trading souvenirs from Kelowna. Closer to home the kids are also getting to know the Telemark biathlon team better.
