Hello Ski Fans,
Regional Camp 1 this weekend. It is really important that you head over to the Sovereign Lake Nordic Website to purchase your trail pass As Soon As Possible. This is the Link: Click Here: https://estore.sovereignlake.com/ There are limited skier numbers for each day of trail passes. You can select the “Morning XC Trail Tickets” option as we stay within the 9 am to 2 pm window each day. Coaches also need to purchase trail passes.
There is skiing at Telemark! This week rock skis are still highly recommended. The lodge will not be open so change at home or in your vehicle. Hopefully, training this week will go ahead as planned but remember to keep your eyes on the Calendar and the website for places and times! If you have not done so already, please Subscribe to our website news feed by clicking Here! and putting your email address in. This is the best way to get timely updated information. Thanks!
Tuesday, November 17th 2020, the Train to Train (T2T 6-7:30 pm) and Learn to Compete (L2C 5 pm) group are both Classic skiing at Telemark. The Track Attack group is planning on Skate Skiing 6-7:30 pm.
Harry Tuesday! It’s like Movember but a little different. For the T2T and L2C groups it is important that you have your skis prepared as Harries ahead of time (This means before arriving). This means that the grip zones of your skis are cleaned free of any grip wax. The grip zone is then sanded roughly with 80-120 grit sand paper. Here is a link to a video which is pretty accurate except that the liquid wax (hydrophobic) ideally would not be High Fluoro. “Waxless” style skis would also work for Tuesday.
Thursday, November 19th 2020, the Train to Train (T2T 6-7:30 pm) and Learn to Compete (L2C 5 pm) group are both Skate skiing at Telemark.
It is really important that we are doing a really good job of following our Phase 3 Return to Sport Plan. Now is not the time to start relaxing on this. Parents need to be constantly reminding their children of the rules and modelling the same behavior. Additionally, any skier attending the regional camp or skiing at Sovereign Lake Nordics needs to be free of any Covid related symptoms for one week before the camp.
Big Race Details: BC currently has interprovincial travel rules for competitions that are stricter than other provinces. It has been believed by Nordiq Canada that these rules could change before the race season. As more time passes this is looking less likely. Check out this handy webpage on the Nordiq Canada Website for the current status on these bigger races. If these BC rules do not change this season we will not be able to compete in Canmore, the world junior trials race will be need to be moved out of our province (BC skiers will not be allowed to compete) and Nationals will be even less likely to happen for us. There is however a lot of really great races planned within British Columbia this winter. A significant number of the fastest skiers in Canada live in our province se level of competition should be high.
Feel free to contact me by email with questions or concerns. Thank You,
Adam Elliot
