CycloCraaawws Help Needed

October 13, 2014 Posted by Barry

Jon Sader2Paul and Barry are getting nervous.  Our CycloCraaawws race is only 6 days away and we have 24 unfilled positions.  We are worried we will not have enough people to host our race!  If you are for sure coming, please click here and tell us so we can sleep better!  If you are on the fence, think of this like tree planting except much closer, much shorter time commitment, and comes with great food and great music.  This fundraiser is, for the team, roughly on par with tree planting.  And it is OUR race and it is a ton of fun to participate in.

These are the positions we need to fill:

  1. Course construction: 1-2 hours Saturday evening — putting up traffic tape to mark the course, setting up jumps and barriers. Click here to volunteer for course construction.
  2. Course Marshal:  Repair damage to the things that define the course (tape and stakes) as they get caught up in pedals, etc.  The exception to this is the childrens’ races, where some of the marshals help the athletes get over the barriers. Minimum 1 hour commitment.  Click here to volunteer for a course marshal spot.
  3. Timing:  Calling and/or entering numbers at the start/finish line.  These lucky folks will get a sneak peak at the new not-yet-released Zone4 race timing system!  Minimum 1 hour commitment. Click here to volunteer for a timing spot.
  4. Coarse Teardown:  Obvious, I think.  1/2 hour.  Click here to volunteer for a course teardown spot.

Interested in trying CycloCross?  There is lots of time to facilitate you working a shift before or after your race.  There are Open (recreational) and Elite classes for each gender and age.  Cost is $5 for 13 and under / $25 for adult.  A ton of draw prizes for all racers, plus a tasty treat for the winners of the under 14 races.

9:30 – 10:50: Registration.

11:00 – 11:40:  Mens’ Open, Womens’ Elite, Womens’ Open, and Under 17 Open.  Bring any bike, though I would not recommend using your carbon fiber road bike.

12:00 – 12:15:  Ages 3-13 Open.  Run bikes are fine. Very short course.  Adults help athletes get bikes over the barriers.

12:20 – 1:00:  Under 12 Elite.

1:15 – 2:00: Mens’ sport and elite,  Under 17 elite.
