Summer Rollerski Workshop Opportunity

July 1, 2012 Posted by Barry

Haakon Lenes and Julia Ransom from the Canadian Junior National team are putting on two rollerski workshops between July 16th and 21st in Kelowna. The workshops will be in the evenings and parents are welcome to attend. Haakon and Julia will be providing mentoring to allow interested athletes to learn proper rollerski technique – they want to help our Telemark athletes get even better!

The only cost is to cover liability through Biathlon BC – a one-day membership is $5 – you can get that at the workshop. The sessions are open to all Telemark athletes (biathlon and race team). Location is likely West Kelowna, but still to be confirmed.  Any level welcome, from beginner to expert, classic or skate.

You must have your own rollerskis (skate or classic), poles, gloves and safety vest (knee and elbow pads optional).

If you want to attend, please sign up by following this link.

This is a great opportunity to improve your skills!  Julia and Haakon will make it fun!!

Several News Items

June 4, 2012 Posted by Barry

1.  Based on the continuing progress toward excellence in our race program and the past year’s performance of Coach Adam and our athletes, we again have the rare privilege of being awarded another annual grant from NWSA / Cross Country Canada.  Details will be posted on the CCC web page in the next couple weeks.

2. Tree planting was an unqualified success.  We raised over $2500 for the race program and had a high level of participation, especially from the TR families.  From what I have heard, everyone enjoyed the experience.  WFN was pleased with how things went and there are discussions that this might be offered to us as an annual fundraiser.  We planted nearly all of Rabbit, Telemark, Summer Road, and Fern Creek trails.

3.  Congratulations to Gareth Williams who was recognized as the 2011/12 “Most Improved Racer” at the annual windup, for “going out week after week all winter and finding ways to beat up on the taller older racers”.  Way to go Gareth!

Gareth, "Most Improved" 2011/12
