Midgets Mt Washington

January 19, 2015 Posted by Ross

It’s almost time for the most fun race of the year!  For those newer to the program, the Midget Championships take place in Mt. Washington on Vancouver Island.  Strathcona Nordic is the host club.  This event is only for skiers in the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 year of birth.

We would like to start getting a idea of numbers of TR1 and JD Skiers planning on attending the Midget Championships.

The Championships start with an individual classic race on Saturday morning by age bracket.  Saturday afternoon is the boys and girls relay races, where just like the Olympics the first two skiers on each team ski classic, followed by the next two skiers skating.  There is a banquet Saturday night.

Sunday morning are the individual skating sprints in the King’s court format where you continue to ski until the final race.  With each successive Sprint race heat skiers become more evenly matched with skiers of their own ability.  Many of the parents have already booked accommodations up at the ski resort (Deer and Bear Lodge).  This isn’t necessary as it as about a 35-40 minute drive from Comox.

Many parents plan on leaving Thursday.  We would then ski Friday morning to learn the trails, then do some team bonding activities like Tubing in the afternoon.  Monday is the BC day holiday.

Here is a link to the Race Notice.  Registration is here:  https://zone4.ca/reg.asp?id=8237&lan=1&cartlevel=1.  If you would like more details please ask any of the coaches.  Please RSVP if you are planning to attend by letting Deepa, Ross, or Paul know.
