Geminid Viewing Tonight

December 13, 2014 Posted by Barry

Since it looks like clear skies are on the agenda, Corrie, Dana, and I will be heading up to Telemark tonight to check out the Geminid meteor shower and all are welcome to join us. The plan is to leave the lodge at 9:30 PM tonight (Saturday). Depending on conditions, we are planning to ski counter-clockwise up Fern Creek to the clear-cut area where Fern, Carol, and Connector meet. If skiing conditions are bad, we will stay in the stadium.

Recommended equipment — a camping pad and a hot beverage. Telescopes will not help you enjoy the meteor shower, but it will probably be good viewing for non-shower stuff if you are into that. Read this article to bone up on the Geminids.

Note that while the peak is expected to happen around midnight tonight, there should be lots to see as soon as it is dark, and even through Sunday and Monday night.  You have to get away from the city lights, though.  And, yes, the same view is waiting for you in Rossland!
