Williams, a member of the Telemark Junior Racers, opened the event on Saturday by leading a field of 24 skiers in the 10-kilometre classic race on the Macpherson Nordic Trails. The ??-year-old covered the course in 27 minutes 16.3 seconds, edging out Seth Van Varseveld of the Larch Hills Nordic Club by 8.8 seconds. Andrew Nash of Larch Hills placed third in 27:38. Telemark’s David Walker raced to seventh place with a clocking of 28:52.7.

Canada Games Preview For X-C Skier

Displaying the talent that earned him a berth on B.C.’s 2015 Canada Winter Games cross country ski team, Gareth Williams of Kelowna won back-to-back races at the second installment of the Teck BC Cup Series in Revelstoke on the weekend.

Williams, a member of the Telemark Junior Racers, opened the event on Saturday by leading a field of 24 skiers in the 10-kilometre classic race on the Macpherson Nordic Trails.

The 17-year-old covered the moist and lightly fogged-in course in 27 minutes 16.3 seconds, edging outSeth Van Varseveld of the Larch Hills Nordic Club by 8.8 seconds. Andrew Nash of Larch Hills placed third in 27:38.

Telemark’s David Walker raced to seventh place with a clocking of 28:52.7.

On Sunday, Williams again skied to top spot with a time of 17:43 in the eight-kilometre freestyle event that included 24 competitors throughout the province and the Ski and Snowboard Club of Australia. Williams finished 2.4 seconds ahead of Amund Wirstad of the Hollyburn club and 10.1 seconds in front of Nash.

Telemark’s Walker improved his standing from the day before by placing fourth in a time 18:00.2, just 17.2 seconds behind Williams.

In the bantam boys events, Telemark’s Garrett Siever raced to a pair of BC Cup medals. He took the silver in Sunday’s free technique race that featured 24 skiers.

His time of 7:48.3 on the 2.5 km course was 18.5 seconds behind Trond May of Larch Hills and just ahead of bronze-medalist, Telemark teammate, Ian Mayer(7:54.9).

Nikhil Filatow of Telemark finished in fifth place, 36.3 seconds behind the winner, while Telemark’s Gregor Graham placed seventh in 8:13.7.

In the bantam boys classic style race on Saturday, Siever added a bronze medal by placing third in the 2.5 km classic race. His time of 9:22.2 was 51.8 seconds off the pace set by May.Damian Georgyev of the Caldedonia Nordic Club in Prince George was second in 9:03.2.

Mayer of Telemark raced to fourth place with a time of 9:26.6 and teammate Graham was one position behind (9:44.3).

The peewee boys competition sawJustin Siever of Telemark claim the bronze medal in Sunday’s 1 km free technique race that included 13 racers. His time of 4:18.1 was just nine seconds behind the winner, Eric Moore of Larch Hills.

Telemark’s Jonah Hawes finished in sixth place with a time of 4:44.8.

On Sunday, Siever and Hawes finished in the top 10 among 16 racers in the classic race. Siever was seventh and Hawes took ninth place.

Jasmine Filatow and Tamasin Graham of Telemark skied to sixth and seventh place respectively in the peewee girls’ 1 km classic on Saturday, while Graham placed sixth and Filatow, eighth, in the freestyle event on Sunday.

The midget girls’ 4 km freestyle race saw Sally Haaheim take third place among 37 competitors. She posted a time of 10:53.6, just 9.7 seconds behind the winner, Mila Wittenberg of Whistler.

A day earlier, Haaheim just missed the podium, finishing fourth in the 4 km classic in a time of 12:47.7. That was less than a second behind the bronze-medal winner, Marielle Ackerman of Kimberley. Telemark’s Michelle Kraetzerplaced sixth among 35 skiers with a time of 13:07.0.

The juvenile boys’s 8 km free technique race saw three Telemark skiers battle it out for the bronze medal. Ian Williams came the closest with a fourth-place finish among 22 competitors in a time 19:19.8, less than a second behind the third-place finisher. Telemark teammates, Ben and Matt Shipley, placed fifth (19:36.2) and sixth (19:41.1) respectively.

Williams was the top Telemark finisher in Saturday’s 5 km. classic race, placing sixth among 24 racers. Matt Shipley was eighth and brother Ben, ninth.
